Photo apps

So, I have always been interested in photography, since high school.  My friend Chris and I would sometimes ditch school and go walking around DC taking pictures.  We would go out at night till all hours, shooting.  We’d spend hours in his basement darkroom, developing film and printing pictures.  I still am into it, but I don’t spend nearly as much time and effort as I want to or as necessary to get better and get better results.  Still, I do some.  And I have an iPhone, which makes it a bit easier to take quick shots.  Recently, I read about several different apps for the phone that have various filters and options, so I bought a couple and am trying them out.  Here are some of the results.

This shot was taken with the normal camera app and then treated with the plastic filter on CameraBag.  It was down at the Sanity/Fear March with Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.  I like the lighting and the odd coloration.

Here’s another shot from the march using the Holga (They call it the Helga) filter.  I have a Holga camera and have always liked its eccentric pictures; the plastic lenses are all unique and have different results.

Recently, at a conference, I was bored, so I took a picture of a speaker at the auditorium.  Then, I used the TiltShift app to change the picture and then ran it through CameraBag’s silver filter.

Museum bathrooms can be quite evocative and beautiful.  Here we have the men’s room at the National Gallery at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.  I forget what filter I put this through; it probably is one of the Instagram app’s various filters, all of which are interesting and include a neat sharing aspect where one may share a photo over the app to all people who have the app to see and critique.

Back to the Mall, with another picture of the masses down at the Rally.  This shot was treated by the Colorcross filter and makes the hues quite surreal and eye grabbing.

I like the men’s restrooms shot a lot. Maybe a print for the house?
